The alarm was raised, Diari de Tarragona explains, when the grandfather went to the Mossos d'Esquadra last weekend (29-30 August) to report the baby missing; the family home on carrer Major in Santa Barbara has been sealed off by the regional police ever since. Diario de Pontevedra adds a chilling detail from the original complaint: the mother reportedly told her father-in-law that the baby had died and that she had buried the child in a cardboard box inside the house. Moncloa.com notes the grandfather had known five other children of the couple but had never once met the little one now being searched for.

One thing the outlets have not settled is the child itself. Diari de Tarragona names a boy, Izan, born on 14 January 2025 and celebrated as the first baby of the year in the town, with a municipal welcome held weeks later.
