Today's essentials (5 key points)

  • Cristina Pedroche made her DJ debut at the closing party of StreetXo Ibiza on the night of Sunday 11 October, according to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera.
  • Meteoalarm has a yellow rain warning for the south of Mallorca on Monday 12 October 2026, while Open-Meteo gives Palma a range of 14 to 26 degrees.
  • Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera reports that a 34-year-old woman was injured in a high-impact motorbike accident in Sant Rafel, Ibiza, on the night of Sunday 11 October.
  • Última Hora says owners of tourist flats in the Balearic Islands will pay about 100 million euros a year once the new tourist VAT takes effect on 1 December.
  • Menorca (Es Diari) reports that the Balearic Islands' roughly 100,000 landlords earn 1,700 million euros a year from renting out property.

Today's essentials

On 12 October, an Última Hora column calls for reconciliation. Monday 12 October 2026 is Spain's Fiesta Nacional, also called the Día de la Hispanidad, which marks Christopher Columbus reaching the Americas in 1492. In an opinion column in Última Hora, Alejandro Macià argues that the date should become a reason for reconciliation rather than a celebration of the conquest, and that, as his title says, apologising does not make anyone powerless.

Weather today

Mild, mostly cloudy Monday across the islands. Open-Meteo forecasts a minimum of 14 degrees and a maximum of 26 degrees in Palma on Monday 12 October 2026, with scattered showers, a 3% chance of rain and wind of up to 11 km/h.

Elsewhere on Mallorca, Andratx can expect overcast skies and temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees, with a 3% chance of rain and wind of up to 7 km/h. Eivissa should stay overcast and mild, between 22 and 25 degrees, with a slightly higher 10% chance of rain and wind of up to 8 km/h. A light layer is enough for the cooler morning in Palma, but if you are heading into the south of Mallorca, keep an umbrella in the bag: Meteoalarm has a yellow rain warning in force there (see below).

Transport & traffic

  • Woman, 34, injured in a motorbike crash in Sant Rafel. A 34-year-old woman was injured on the night of Sunday 11 October 2026 in a motorbike accident in Sant Rafel, Ibiza, which the emergency services classed as a high-impact crash, according to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera. Sant Rafel is on the main route between Ibiza town and Sant Antoni, so many residents drive or ride through it at night, and two-wheelers have no protection in a high-impact collision. If you ride a scooter or motorbike on the island, take extra care on the main roads after dark, when visibility drops and traffic is still busy at weekends.

What's changing for you

  • Balearic landlords earn 1,700 million euros a year. According to Menorca (Es Diari), the Balearic Islands have around 100,000 landlords, who together earn 1,700 million euros a year from renting out property. The islands and Madrid have the highest share of residents who declare rental income, the paper adds. If you let a flat or a room here, the income must be declared in your annual Spanish tax return, so it is worth getting a gestor to check your situation before the next filing period. If you rent, the figure helps explain why demand from owners keeps rents so high in the archipelago.
  • New tourist VAT for holiday lets from 1 December. Owners of tourist flats in the Balearic Islands will pay about 100 million euros a year once the new tourist VAT comes into force on 1 December, Última Hora reports. The measure is part of the government's housing decree. If you own a licensed holiday let, talk to your accountant or gestor now about how the tax will apply to bookings from December onwards, and check whether your prices for winter and next season already account for it.

Local news to know

  • Pedroche plays her first DJ set in Ibiza. Cristina Pedroche made her debut as a DJ on the night of Sunday 11 October 2026 at the closing party of StreetXo Ibiza, Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera reports, and the same paper notes that the SALF party wants to stand in the Balearic Islands.
  • Yellow rain warning for the south of Mallorca. Meteoalarm has issued a yellow-level rain warning for the south of Mallorca, telling residents to stay alert and follow the latest forecasts, since moderate damage is possible, especially to vulnerable people and in exposed areas.
