Today's essentials
Chicken price climbs to €1.35 a kilo, half Europe's average. Chicken prices in Spain are rising with the national market and have reached €1.35 a kilo, which is still about half the average European price, according to a column in Menorca (Es Diari) published on Tuesday 6 October 2026. The column does not say whether this is the wholesale or retail price, and Última Hora reported in July that roast chickens in the Balearic Islands were selling for 10 to 12% less than a year earlier, so check prices at your usual shop before assuming your bill will go up.
Weather today
Mild, mostly dry Tuesday with a few scattered showers. Open-Meteo forecasts a low of 21 degrees and a high of 26 degrees in Palma on Tuesday 6 October 2026, with light rain possible (18% chance) and winds of up to 13 km/h.
In Palma, the low chance of rain means you probably won't need an umbrella, but a light layer will help in the evening. Further north in Mallorca, Alcúdia will be the warmest spot with a high of 28 degrees, a low of 21, a 28% chance of scattered showers and winds of up to 12 km/h.
In Menorca, Ciutadella will see temperatures between 22 and 26 degrees under cloudy skies, with only a 5% chance of rain and winds of up to 13 km/h. It should be an easy day for being outdoors, but if you live in the south of Mallorca, read the storm warning below before you head out.
Transport & traffic
- Nus de sa Corbata: the Mallorcan road that crosses over itself. At Nus de sa Corbata, which translates as "the tie knot", the road loops back and crosses over itself, as a photo posted on Reddit's r/mallorca community shows. This famous curl sits on the mountain road down to Sa Calobra in the Serra de Tramuntana, and it is one of the most photographed pieces of road engineering on the island. If you are driving it in a hire car, on a scooter or on a bike, take the bends slowly, expect to meet coaches and groups of cyclists, and only stop for a photo where there is safe space to pull over.
What's changing for you
- Housing protest camp in Maó. Since midnight on Saturday 3 October, about 20 young people have been taking turns in 10 tents in Maó's Plaça de la Constitució to call for solutions to the housing crisis, Menorca (Es Diari) reports. The group plans to keep the camp going for some time, so if you are in central Maó this week, you will see the tents in the square. If you are renting or looking for a home in Menorca, this protest shows how much pressure there is on the market. Keep a close eye on any announcements from the town council or the island government (Consell Insular), since new housing measures usually come with deadlines for applying.
