Today's essentials
57 volunteers pull 24.5 kg of litter from Cala Galdana. Menorca.info reports that 57 volunteers collected 24.5 kg of waste at Cala Galdana beach in Ferreries, Menorca, on Thursday. It was the fourth session of the Mares Circulares programme run by Ilunion Hotels and Coca-Cola, and the total collected on this beach across the four sessions has now reached 155.4 kg.
Weather today
Storms and hail over Palma, showers on Ibiza. Open-Meteo forecasts thunderstorms with hail in Palma on Saturday 3 October 2026, with temperatures between 22 and 27 degrees and a 73% chance of rain.
The wind in the capital should stay light, at up to 16 km/h, but the hail is the bigger issue: if your car is usually parked on the street, a covered spot is worth finding. Inland and to the east of Mallorca, Manacor will be overcast, with 21 to 26 degrees, a 53% chance of rain and the day's strongest wind, gusting up to 20 km/h.
The Pitiusas get a slightly cooler day: Eivissa should see 22 to 25 degrees with scattered showers, a 70% chance of rain and wind up to 16 km/h. It's still mild enough for short sleeves, but take a light waterproof if you're heading out for the day.
Transport & traffic
- Nus de sa Corbata: the road that crosses itself. A photo shared on Reddit's r/mallorca community has brought renewed attention to the Nus de sa Corbata (the 'tie knot'), the spot on the Sa Calobra road in the Serra de Tramuntana where the road loops round and passes over itself. The road is one of the island's most photographed drives, but it's also one of its most demanding: a narrow surface, a long run of hairpin bends, and coaches and cyclists sharing the same lanes. If you're planning to drive down to Sa Calobra, go early, take it slowly through the bends and be ready to pull in. The same rule applies on the way back up, which is the harder half of the trip.
What's changing for you
- Ciutadella gets a desalinated water point for tankers. The Balearic Government has started work on the first loading point for desalinated water for tanker trucks in Ciutadella, according to Menorca's Es Diari. The work answers a request that Menorca's local authorities made only about two weeks earlier, when they asked for the project to be fast-tracked. If your home or rural property relies on tanker deliveries rather than the mains, ask your usual supplier whether they plan to fill up at the new Ciutadella point once it's running, and what that means for the water they deliver to you.
